Tuesday 13 July, 2004 – Tulamben, Bali, Indonesia
Good to his word, German diving instructor Werner picked me up early from the hotel and we headed off to Tulamben for diving. I had anticipated a group, but it seemed this was a personalised tour and I was his only client today.
I told him I wasn’t an experienced diver and hadn’t been down since I was in Thailand in 2001, so we started off in a pool at a small resort on the beach for a bit of a refresher before heading off the beach to swim the short distance offshore and drop down to the wrecked Liberty ship that now formed an artificial reef off the beach in the narrow straight between Bali and Lombok.
It was easy diving and Werner was a good instructor; plenty of colourful fish plus the drama of a sunken ship to explore.
