Sat 10 July 2004 – Seminyak, Bali
Breakfast in the breezy restaurant of Hotel Bali Ayu, then a walk along the beach in the daylight. Walked as far as Legian, back along Jalan Legian to Jalan Double Six. Had a massage and a foot massage. I was expecting the foot massage to be like a Singapore reflexology treatment, but it was just the lower-body section of the full body massage I’d just had! Still, it was pleasant, but didn’t shift the headache that had descended upon me.
Lunch was a good nasi goreng with a fried egg on top at a very unprepossessing local café. During the afternoon I sat by the pool and read, then went for a walk along the beach to witness the infamous ‘Kuta Sunset’, and very nice it was too.
Dinner back on Jalan Daya Pura at Warung Mimpi, which promises ‘Indonesian cooking’. Not until ordering was I informed that almost everything was off, including the normally ubiquitous chicken satay! Still, it was a pleasant meal with the young waiter dealing single handed with tables full of boisterous Americans, bolshy Indonesian middle class and Aussie surfies, and doing it well.
