Lunch with Julie Lithgow

Thursday 28 June, 2001 – Singapore

Despite feeling unwell with a ripper of a head cold, I made my way to the colonial district to meet with Julie Lithgow and a journalist she wanted me to meet. On the way I finally purchased my backpack from a shop in the Peninsular Plaza mall, although I had to wait until after 12.00noon for it to open!

Lunch at Lei Gardens restaurant in Chjimes, a converted monastery or school or something, near Raffles Hotel, was very pleasant. Australian journalist Rachael Farnay-Jacques is editor of The Arts magazine published by The Esplanade Company as an audience development tool. She said she was interested in me writing an article on some aspect of my trip for the magazine, which I said I’d give some thought to and send her some ideas.

Staggered home and spent the afternoon in bed.
